Our Story

"In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." — Benjamin Franklin

As physicians, we dedicate our lives to studying how to postpone death, the one certainty we all face. Yet, despite the other inevitability—taxes, and more broadly, financial management—most of us spend little to no time learning how to navigate our finances. This lack of financial education leaves many in our profession vulnerable, especially after years of expensive training.

Fiscal Health was founded by Justin Woods, MD, a physician who intimately understands the financial challenges faced by medical professionals. Upon graduating from family medicine residency with over $226,000 in student loans and little knowledge of how to navigate his financial future, Justin took decisive action. By working four jobs concurrently, he paid off his loans in just 15 months—a feat that demonstrated his commitment to attaining financial independence.

This experience ignited a passion for financial literacy, leading Justin to dedicate hundreds of hours to self-education in personal finance. Through extensive self-study, he increased his knowledge and confidence in the principles of debt management, investing, and financial planning. This deep, hands-on learning was followed by formalized training through an Executive MBA program, further equipping him with the skills needed to educate others.

The Problem

Justin’s journey uncovered a widespread issue: many physicians, unless they have a background in finance or engage in self-education, progress through years of rigorous medical training without ever learning how to manage their finances effectively. This financial illiteracy contributes significantly to the burnout crisis in medicine, as financial stress limits physicians' ability to shape their careers on their own terms.

Our Mission

After years of refining his educational content and sharing it with individual learners, Justin recognized the need to make this crucial knowledge more broadly accessible. Thus, Fiscal Health was born—a company devoted to empowering medical trainees with the financial confidence and skills they need to thrive both professionally and personally.

At Fiscal Health, we believe that financial freedom is essential for a sustainable medical career. We are committed to making personal finance education equitably accessible across the country, building financial confidence, one trainee at a time.
